The Next-Generation Daihatsu Move: A Bold Revival with a Fresh Design and Enhanced Features

After a two-year hiatus, the highly anticipated next-generation Daihatsu Move is finally set to make a comeback! Originally launched in 1995 as a compact kei car based on the Daihatsu Mira, the Move has remained a popular choice in Japan, with its sixth-generation model debuting in 2014. However, production came to a halt in June 2023, with an expected full model change that was delayed due to certification fraud issues in overseas markets. Now, the seventh-generation Move is officially scheduled for release after April 2025.

Striking New Design & Upgraded Platform

The upcoming Daihatsu Move will be built on the latest Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, bringing significant improvements in:

  • Interior Space – Overall height will increase by 30mm, enhancing cabin comfort.
  • Weight Reduction & Rigidity – A lighter yet stronger structure enhances fuel efficiency and safety.
  • Improved Driving Performance – A stiffer body and optimized suspension promise a smoother, more stable ride.

One of the biggest changes is the introduction of sliding rear doors, a first for the Move lineup. This feature enhances convenience, making entry and exit easier—especially in tight urban spaces.

A Bold Exterior with Modern Styling

The seventh-gen Move boasts a refreshed, modern look, setting it apart from its predecessor:

  • New Headlights – The conventional trapezoidal headlights have been replaced with a sleek, horizontal design integrated into the grille for a unified, futuristic appearance.
  • Sharper Character Lines – Stylish, edgy contours on the sides and lower body enhance the car’s presence.
  • Aggressive Under-Grill – A redesigned under-grill aligns with the diffuser design, giving it a more dynamic, sporty appeal.

Tech-Savvy Cabin & Connectivity

Inside, the Move receives a modern digital upgrade:

  • 10-inch Infotainment Display – A large screen dominates the dashboard, providing seamless navigation and entertainment.
  • Daihatsu Connect – The Move comes equipped with smart connectivity features, allowing drivers to sync their smartphones for access to a range of services.

Fuel-Efficient Powertrain Options

Under the hood, the next-gen Move will feature:

  • 660cc Naturally Aspirated 3-Cylinder Engine – Producing 55PS of power.
  • 660cc Turbocharged 3-Cylinder Engine – Delivering 64PS for added performance.

Both engines are paired with Daihatsu’s new-generation D-CVT transmission, ensuring smoother shifts and improved efficiency. Additionally, the introduction of a "multi-spark" ignition system—which fires two ignitions per cycle—is expected to boost fuel economy by 10%.

Expected Launch & Global Premiere

The world premiere of the new Daihatsu Move is set to take place in April 2025, with an official launch expected by summer 2025. This model marks a significant comeback for Daihatsu, blending practicality, modern technology, and improved efficiency in a stylish, compact package.
