BYD Sealion 7: Details Leaked Ahead of Launch

Specifications and Features of BYD’s Tesla Model Y Rival Revealed

The highly anticipated 2025 BYD Sealion 7 is set to hit Australian roads this month, with a confirmed starting price under $60,000. Now, new details have emerged, shedding light on the specifications and features of this mid-size electric SUV, positioned above the Atto 3 in BYD’s lineup.

A recent post in the BYD Sealion 7 Australia Facebook group revealed an email allegedly sent by BYD, outlining key specifications for the two-variant lineup: the entry-level Sealion 7 Premium and the high-performance Sealion 7 Performance.

Power and Performance

The Sealion 7 will be available in two powertrain options:

  • Sealion 7 Premium (Rear-Wheel Drive): 230kW/380Nm output, 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds.

  • Sealion 7 Performance (All-Wheel Drive): 390kW/690Nm output, 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds.

Both variants are powered by an 82.56kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery, offering an estimated driving range of 482km for the Premium and 456km for the Performance. The Sealion 7 supports 150kW DC fast charging and 11kW AC charging, along with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.

Dimensions and Design

The BYD Sealion 7 is designed to be a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, with the following dimensions:

  • Width: 1925mm

  • Wheelbase: 2930mm

  • Weight: 2225kg (Premium), 2340kg (Performance)

It features a 500-litre rear cargo space and an additional 58-litre frunk (front trunk) for extra storage.

Built for comfort and stability, the Sealion 7 features double wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension with frequency-selective dampers. The vehicle also comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including:

Exterior and Interior Color Options

The BYD Sealion 7 will be available in four colors.

  • Atlantis Grey

  • Cosmos Black

  • Aurora White

  • Shark Grey

The interior color options currently appear to be limited to black upholstery.
