Suzuki Unveils the V-Strom 160: A Compact Adventure-Tourer for Columbia

Suzuki V-Strom 160

Suzuki has expanded its portfolio in Columbia with the launch of the V-Strom 160, an exciting new addition to its adventure-touring lineup. This model, manufactured in Brazil, closely resembles the Haojue DL160—developed by Suzuki’s Chinese partner, Haojue.

While the V-Strom 160 carries the adventure DNA of its larger siblings, many of its features are geared towards on-road use. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, supported by telescopic forks and a mono shock suspension. However, with a ground clearance of just 160mm and a suspension setup lacking significant travel, it's not designed for serious off-road exploration.

That said, Suzuki has ensured rider comfort for longer journeys. The tall handlebar and a spacious, well-cushioned seat make it ideal for weekend tours or long-distance rides, extending its appeal beyond daily city commutes.

Powertrain and Features

The V-Strom 160 is powered by a 160cc, air-cooled, SOHC engine producing 14.75bhp and 14Nm of torque, paired with a five-speed gearbox. Notably, this engine differs from the one found on Suzuki’s Gixxer sold in India, featuring unique crankcase and cylinder head designs.

Other highlights of the bike include:

  • 795mm seat height for accessible ergonomics
  • 13-litre fuel tank for extended range
  • Round digital instrument console
  • Lightweight construction with a kerb weight of just 148kg

Will It Arrive in India?

Despite its impressive features, the V-Strom 160 is unlikely to make its way to India. The market for 150-160cc adventure-style motorcycles remains niche, and Suzuki has faced challenges with the sales performance of its Gixxer and Gixxer SF models in the region.

The V-Strom 160 stands out as a compelling option for markets like Columbia, where compact adventure-touring motorcycles are gaining popularity. While it may not find a home in India, it highlights Suzuki’s commitment to offering diverse and region-specific models globally.
